John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, PA
On Sunday 4/13/2008 24 members and friends of the DVOC met
at the HQ of the Heinz refuge at 8 am. Six of our group were teenagers. Starting
out we had great looks at Wild Turkey from the viewing area of the Cusano Center.
Later on we saw Pine, Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers. Around 10 am about 1/2
of our group decided to call it a day. The rest of us decided to check out the
impoundment and at the large boardwalk we were informed that there was a female
Western Tanager near the observation tower. We made our way out to the area
and found the bird. We all got busy on the cell phones to get the word out about
the bird. We ended up with 53 species of bird.
