Opening Remarks

Phil Witmer announces that he will assume the duties of President through Dec 2016 due to the death of Steve Kacir. The membership committee will select a special 1 year President term to take over in January 2017 in order to keep the traditional terms of Secretary and Vice President intact.

Guests introduce themselves and are welcomed by attendees.

No minutes from last meeting as it was a social meeting only.

George Armistead recaps the social event and announces that the next social is scheduled for Oct 20. Venue to be determined.

Meeting minutes from previous meeting approved.

Committee Reports

Membership Bonnie Witmer
Bonnie Witmer welcomes Liz Hoffman as a new member who is also in attendance at the meeting. Announces Sandy Bauers submitted an application. Holger Pflicke is also a new member.
New member packets will be distributed soon. Name tags will also be printed soon.

Conservation George Armistead
George will display plans for Discovery Park at East Park Reservoir for members to peruse.
Reminder that the DVOC World Series of Birding team this year is Ridin’ Birdy which will be led by Tony Croasdale. The team will compete in the Carbon Footprint category. Joined by Bull Gervasi, Jonathan Feenstra and Matthew Halley. Go to DVOC or birdphilly.org website or FaceBook page to contribute to the team. Contributions go toward costs of the team and to fund BirdPhilly.

Herb Cutler has been a member for 77 years. Rick Mellon has agreed record an interview Herb to reflect on his 77 years in the club.

April 24th – Early Spring Migration at Palmyra Cove in Palmyra NJ by Sandra Keller
April 30th – Bartram’s Garden in Philadelphia by George Armistead
April 30th – Cynwyd Heritage Trail/Laurel Cemetery in Lower Merion by Gregg Gorton
Bob Horton’s Lakehurst trip requires identification to be allowed on the base. Target birds are Upland Sandpiper and Grasshopper Sparrow. Contact Bob Horton directly for information. Space is limited.

Bonnie Witmer announces Tredyffrin Bird Sanctuary is now official. Cleanup this Saturday 9-12 needs volunteers.
Linda Widdop announces that Conserve Wildlife NJ needs volunteers to help with “reTurn the Favor” horseshoe crab flipping along Delaware bayshore. Visit www.conservewildlifenj.org for more details.
Phil Witmer announces good articles in Hawk Mountain newsletter. Benefit for the Birds Gala being held May 13th.
DOS Delaware Bird-a-thon announced to be held April 30 – May 8. Will raise money for conservation for bird habitat in Delaware. Brochures available at meeting
Barbara Bassett announces Gloucester County Bird Club running Bird Quest May 7th to raise funds.

Barb Bassett – Ruby-throated Hummingbird visited her feeder in Gloucester County NJ today
Linda Widdop – chimney swifts are back at Lemon Hill and Fairmount Philadelphia
George Armistead – heard a Greater Yellowlegs flyover at 17th St in Philadelphia. First .
Phil Witmer – Kestral boxes at Green Lane Montgomery County – 1 box being used with 5 eggs
Barbara Granger – Pileated nest found in Pennypack Environmental Center in Philadelphia with baby poking out of the hole
Mike O’Brien – Merlin on top of nursing home at 35th & Chestnut in Philadelphia
Marty Dellwo – reports that Frank Winfelder sent a note about Horned Lark at NE airport runway which is very late for that species in city
