Back By Popular Demand – Birds of Prey: Hawks, Eagles, Falcons and Vultures of North America

Speaker: Pete Dunne and Kevin Karlson

Kevin Karlson and Pete Dunne generously agreed to present their visually stunning Bird of Prey program that they presented at the DVOC Annual Banquet in November for those members (and non-members) who could not attend due to the snowstorm. The program reflects the mood and content of a new book (Birds of Prey) by Pete Dunne and Kevin Karlson (April 2017, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishers). Pete Dunne will introduce the book and explain the concept of the book as images of raptors are shown. Kevin Karlson will present all of the raptor groups with images from the book and special stories about birds of prey shared. A special musical ending highlights some of the most spectacular raptor images ever assembled by 19 top North American photographers. Kevin and Pete will be available to sign copies of their newly released book.

Always a popular group of birds, raptors symbolize freedom and fierceness, and in Pete Dunne’s definitive guide, these traits are portrayed in hundreds of stunning color photographs showing raptors up close, in flight, and in action—fighting, hunting, and nesting. These gorgeous photographs enhance the comprehensive, authoritative text, which goes far beyond identification to cover raptor ecology, behavior, conservation, and much more. In returning to his forte and his first love, Pete Dunne has crafted a benchmark book on raptors: the first place to turn for any question about these highly popular birds, whether it’s what they eat, where they live, or how they behave.
