FDR Park is one of the Top 3 birding destinations in Philadelphia for which a Master Plan is currently being developed that will transform the park in the years to come.
To ensure the birding community is well represented at the next community meeting on November 14th this trip will educate participants about the parks history, habitats and avifauna as well as provide a peek into future design possibilities. This time of year the park is good for waterfowl including the possibility of good looks at the recurring drake Eurasian Wigeon. In addition, we might be lucky enough and still enjoy the Common Gallinule pair that chose FDR Park over John Heinz NWR to raise their chicks this year or get a fleeting glimpse at an American Bittern.
Sturdy shoes for walking off trail are recommended. Meet at the parking lot just east of the gazebo (GPS: 39.903522, -75.178762).
DON’T FORGET – YOU GET AN EXTRA HOUR OF SLEEP THE NIGHT BEFORE!!
