This has been the best vantage point for viewing Peregrine Falcons on the Delaware. They have bred on the bridge for a number of years (in 2000 on the NJ side and in 2001 on the PA side), and can often be found resting on the underside beams.

| Directions: From Carey Memorial Park in Florence, go west on W. Front Street for 1mile. Just after you go under the turnpike bridge, park at the pull off on your right. There has been a concrete barrier preventing access to the rivers edge, but from here you can scan the bridge. DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer: P. 47 E25 From the turnpike bridge, you can continue south on River Road for 1.4 mile to a small dirt pull off on the right side, along the grass verge. Here there is an opening through the trees, which looks out to Burlington Island. This is the best spot to view Great Cormorants, which like to perch on the large white tower marker, usually at the top, in the middle of the Delaware River about 400 yards away, just to the north of Burlington Island. Osprey's nest on the platform on Burlington Island opposite the pull off, and Kingfisher can often be found patrolling the riverbanks. DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer: P. 47 F24 ~ Adrian Binns |
