Click Here for information about this species

In September 1842 John Cassin collected this vireo in Brigham's Woods near Philadelphia. It was formally described in the 1851 Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences. It is the type specimen for the species and is now part of the ornithological collection of the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia, PA

Brigham's Woods is mentioned as being "where Horticultural Hall now stands in West Fairmount Park" (Cassinia Volume XI 1906 Page 27). The Horticultural Hall was built for the Centennial Exposition (1876). This is the present day site of The Horticultural Center. On the 1843 Philadelphia County Map (Charles Ellet, Jr), "Bringham" is shown as the owner of this area.
