Minutes of the DVOC
March 17, 2011

President Frank Windfelder called the meeting to order at 7:32 PM. Forty-two members and five guests were present.

The minutes of the March 3rd meeting were approved as submitted.

Committee Member Anita Guris announced that Council had approved Chris Brennan’s application for membership.
Chair Phil Witmer reported that The House of Representatives has passed the HR1 funding bill, which would zero out funding for many conservation projects. Phil also commented that the bill was not expected to pass the Senate. He said that the Senate has introduced a Bill to continue the Endangered Species Act.

Trip Reports:
March 12 Barnegat Light and Forsythe NWR, NJ. Members of the DVOC and the Upper Main Line YMCA saw many varieties of ducks at both locations. Highlights included Redheads, Harlequin Ducks and a Tundra Swan.
Trip Announcements:
March 19 Indian River Inlet and Points North, DE. Led by Martin Selzer.
March 26 Pinelands Birding, including the Franklin Parker Preserve, NJ. Led by Tony Croasdale.
Chair Dino Fiabane announced the upcoming Ornithological Studies:
On April 7, Frank Windfelder will present “A DVOC Quiz”
On April 21, Hart Rufe will present "Revisiting 'The Bare Truth About Birding Martha's Vineyard’”
Frank Windfelder announced the upcoming programs:
On April 7, Jack Hubley will present "Man and Raptor: The Falconry Story."
On Apr 21 Dan Kunkle will present “Superfund to Super Habitat.”
New Bins for New Birders:
Paul Guris announced that this committee has set up a binocular loaner program with Cobb Creek through Tony Croasdale.

Anita Guris announced two upcoming pelagic trips: March 26 from Belmar, NJ, an 8 hour trip, and another trip on March 27 from Freeport, NY. An overnight trip is scheduled for May 19 and 20 out of Wildwood Crest, NJ.

Debbie Beer announced that member Adrian Binns would be presenting “Tales with Tails” at the Radnor Hunt on April 1.

Local Notes:

Al Driscoll reported seeing the Pink-footed Goose in Northern NJ.

Mike Fritz reported a female Yellow-headed Blackbird at Featherbed Lane, NJ, as well as 78 Razorbills on a recent fishing trip.

Ornithological Study

Dino Fiabane introduced Greg Gorton. Greg presented “Looking for Ted Parker"

Main Program

Frank Windfelder introduced Richard Crossley. Richard presented “Past, Present and Future.”

The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 PM
