Conclusions:
•I
believe we had a Mountain Trogon in Sawmill Canyon.
•Unfortunately,
inadequate views at the time and insufficient detail in my notes make
this sighting hypothetical at best.
•The
call we heard is unlike anything I have heard in the limited
recordings I’ve listened to.
However the quality is very similar to the Mountain
Trogon.
•This
bird was extremely secretive and could easily be overlooked (we
had three brief looks in two hours of following this bird
and the only way we found the bird was by following the call).
•If the
bird we saw was a Mountain Trogon then the best way to find a Mountain
Trogon in winter might be:
