Positions and Achievements
Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, I've been interested in birds and nature all my life.
My love for birds and nature started in elementary school when I would spend time at recess gazing mesmerized at the passing turkey vultures. Seeing my interest in birds, my parents and grandparents gave me my first field guide and pair of binoculars, and from there, a lifelong hobby/passion kicked off.
Throughout my time in elementary school, I would spend countless hours, learning about birds/nature from books and online sources and causally birding local green spaces in my neighborhood. It wasn't until early 2018 during my freshman year of high school that I started birding more seriously. By that point in my birding journey, I had only really seen the common, easy-to-see birds, but I wanted to see more. So, beginning that spring, I started attending bird walks led by groups, such as DVOC and Wyncote Audubon (now Liberty Bird Alliance). From attending those walks, I met and made connections with people in the Philly birding community, some of which helped me get positions, including a Youth Representative position on the board of Wyncote Audubon from 2019 to 2020. I was even fortunate to be attend the 2019 Cornell Lab Young Birders Event in July 2019 thanks to a recommendation from parishioner at my parish who noticed my interest in birds.
During my time in college at La Salle University, I continued honing my birding skills as well as meeting and connecting with people in the local birding community, one of which helped land me a job as a nature educator for Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and another that helped me land a position as an atlas block principal for the PA Bird Atlas (a position I still hold). During my time at La Salle, I also founded the La Salle Birding Club, a student-run organization dedicated to showcasing and teaching students and faculty about the amazing avian and habitat diversity in Philadelphia.
Now an experienced birder, I continue to educate the public about birds by leading guided walks for the DVOC's BirdPhilly initiative. I look forward to educating about and spreading the joy of birds to a wider audience via partnerships and by expanding into new areas.
Outside of birding, I also enjoy nature photography, drawing, listening to jazz music, watching 20th century animation, and collecting items, like U.S. coins. But when I'm out birding locally on my own, you can find me in green spaces across Northeast and Northwest Philadelphia, like Pennypack and the Wissahickon. Lastly, I do admit that I'm a rather quiet, introverted person that takes birding seriously, but I'm friendly and always happy to meet new people in the birding community.
