Team BirdPhilly to Participate in New Jersey Audubon’s World Series of Birding

On May 12th the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club with The American Birding Association and Steiner Optics will field a team competing in New Jersey Audubon’s World Series of Birding Carbon Footprint Challenge. Katrina Rakowski, Jeff Gordon, Bull Gervasi, and Tony Croasdale will bicycle for 24 hours attempting to identify as many bird species by sight and sound as possible. This team will be raising funds for BirdPhilly, a partnership between DVOC and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation which provides a yearly series of free birding trips, birding backpacks at Philadelphia libraries, birding workshops, and birding programs for the visually impaired. This year the team will focus on Northern Cape May County and adjacent Cumberland Country riding from bay to ocean. We hope to start the day listening for rails at Jakes Landing, make a run through Bellplain for owls and nightjars, stay at Belleplain till dawn and search the area for breeders and migrant, then hit Heislerville for the shorebird sweep, cross the peninsula via Beaver Swamp and end the day with some sea watching. Please consider donating to club below and consider joining us for some scouting!

Flat donations are great, or you can pledge to donate $1-$3 per bird.
