Panama DVOC Field Trip Report
Speaker: Tanya Burnett (in-person)
DVOC hosted its first field trip to Central America from January 16-20, 2026. There were a series of walks featuring a half day at Parque Natural Metropolitano and a full day in the Pipeline Road area. The presentation will cover the highlights from the field trip to Panama.
Tanya Burnett is a Philadelphia-based birder who loves traveling to see birds. She briefly gave birding a try when she lived in Ohio and promptly quit her new hobby when she returned to Philadelphia believing there were no birds in the area. Years later, after retiring from her career in banking and finance, a family member convinced her to give Heinz a try. From that day in spring 2019 forward, she has been hooked.
Since then, she has birded in more than a dozen countries often using local guides, eBird data and iNaturalist research to create custom but affordable itineraries to see her target birds and mammals. Her goal is to get over 5,000 birds on her world life list which she hopes to accelerate by finding a tropical and birdy retirement location. Panama is firmly in the running but her quest is not done.
