Flycatchers Demystified
Speaker: Cin-Ty Lee & Andrew Birch (remote)
Cin-Ty Lee and Andrew Birch, coauthors of the new Princeton field guide series to the flycatchers of North America, will
introduce you to the basics of identifying this very difficult group of birds. Flycatchers seem to all look the same, but Lee and Birch will show you how to look at the subtle variations in flycatchers and use a more holistic approach to bird identification. They will talk about the basics of separating Empidonax, pewees, kingbirds, and Myiarchus flycatchers.
Cin-Ty Lee is a professor of geology at Rice University. Andy Birch is a professional illustrator. Both Cin-Ty and Andy have had a lifelong passion in tackling challenging bird identifications. Together, they have produced the two-volume Princeton Field Guide to North American Flycatchers. They are currently working on volume 3, which will include photographs and more of Andy’s illustrations.
