CANCELLED: Eighty-five Years and Counting: Discoveries about Migration & Raptors from Hawk Mountain

Speaker: (CANCELLED) Laurie Goodrich

CANCELLED: Since 1934 Hawk Mountain has been monitoring raptor and songbird migration along the Kittatinny Ridge. In this talk, we will highlight discoveries from these long-term data including documenting migration timing and golden eagle flights by Maurice Broun in the early years, to recent exploration of changes in migration timing and numbers. Data on migration in hummingbirds and other songbirds will also be highlighted.

Laurie  has an M.S. in Ecology from Rutgers University and Ph.D in Ecology from Penn State.  She serves as Sarkis Acopian Director of Conservation Science at Hawk Mountain. She was hired as the first full-time research biologist for Hawk Mountain and she has spent 35 years studying migrating birds there.  Currently, she specializes in full life-cycle studies of the Broad-winged Hawk and in analysis of long-term migration data.  In 2018 she won the Rosalie Edge Conservation Award from DVOC for her outstanding work.
