Join BirdPhilly as we explore the historic Mount Moriah Cemetery. First established in 1855, the rolling landscape has been an inclusive final resting place for Philadelphia’s diverse population. After the cemetery was abandoned by its owners, The Friends of Mount Moriah have been working diligently since 2011 to restore this beautiful green space. 

We will meet at the entrance gate at 6210 Kingsessing Ave. at 10:30 am and plan to bird for 1 to 2 hours.

The terrain is somewhat hilly with a mix of paved and grass paths. Vehicles may enter the cemetery grounds when the gates are open and visitors can park inside on the main roadways. Please pull to the side so other vehicles may pass, but do not park on the grass. Otherwise, there is usually street parking outside the main gate. Unfortunately, there are no public restrooms. 

No binoculars? No worries! Birding backpacks with binoculars and field guides are on loan at the following local Philly libraries: Andorra, Cobbs Creek, Cecil B. Moore, Chestnut Hill, Eastwick, Falls of Schuylkill, Fishtown, Fox Chase, Greater Olney, Independence Library, Logan, Lovett Memorial, Northeast Regional, Oak Lane, Parkway Central, Richmond, South Philly, Torresdale, West Philadelphia Regional, and Widener.
