This lecture will provide information for birders seeking to observe more birds from where they live. Whether you live in a tiny apartment complex or a sprawling estate, you can influence land management practices that benefit birds and facilitate their observation. We will use ecological principles from island biogeography to phenology to inform gardening decisions aimed at attracting birds.

Tony Croasdale, is passionate about urban ecology; focusing on land use that supports native wildlife populations while facilitating recreational nature observation. He works for Philadelphia Parks and Recreation as the supervisor of Wissahickon Environmental Center. He is an adjunct instructor of Plant Ecology for Temple University, the co-host of the Urban Wildlife Podcast and vocalist for punk rock band, R.A.M.B.O.. Tony has a BS in Horticulture from Temple University and a MS in Biology from St Joseph’s University. Tony is an avid birder and has performed field research in Peru, Brazil, Alaska, Arctic Canada, and throughout the Mid Atlantic. Tony lives with his wife and daughter  in Upper Roxborough where he has planted most of his yard with native plants.
