Brief Description:
For millions of years, humans have been watching and copying bird behavior. Many of the behaviors that we take to be inherently human—including walking upright, using tools, language, writing, music, dance, sewing, pottery, home building, and flight—were perfected by birds long before we became human. This presentation looks at the shared history of humans and birds and how we may have become human by copying these behaviors from birds in our shared environment.
Brief Bio:
Rob has a PhD in Geography and the Environment from the University of Texas at Austin (2008) and teaches in the department of Geography, Planning, and Sustainability at Rowan University. He is the former Senior Scientist for Urban Bird Conservation at Audubon, Executive Director of Travis Audubon in Austin, Texas, and founder of the Hornsby Bend Bird Observatory. Rob is an avid birder, loves county and yard listing, and spent the Covid year of 2020 setting a new Delaware County, PA annual listing record (260 species, finally topping Johnny Miller’s record of 241 set in 1969). Rob lives in Wallingford, Delaware County with his wife and youngest daughter, having already fledged two additional offspring.
