Outside North America she has birded Patagonia, Argentina; the Czech Republic; the English Lake District; Costa Rica; Serra dos Tucanos, Brazil; and Trinidad and Tobago.
She has been a frequent contributor to Bird Watcher’s Digest. Most recently BWD has published her travel articles which include birding trips to Florida, Georgia, central Delaware, Washington State (with Joanne Holcomb), Montauk (with Bob Shutsky), Massachusetts in winter (with Martin Selzer), Santa Cruz County, CA as well as species accounts of Chimney Swift, Chipping and Golden-crowned Sparrows, Broad-winged Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk (with Bob Cohen), and California Towhee. In the early 1990’s, BWD also ran her piece on pelagic birding on both coasts.
Still to appear in forthcoming issues of BWD are articles on birding Trinidad and Tobago, the Yukon Territory, Niagara (all with Martin Selzer) and an update on birding Santa Cruz County, CA, where Jane and husband Bob Cohen spend six weeks or more every year.
DVOC’s 2002-03 Cassinia ran her article on Wilson’s Snipe. A piece on Pigeon Guillemot will appear in the upcoming issue of Cassinia.
Current projects include figuring out how to set up her own website and how to take quality digital bird photos.
Jane is the current President of Wyncote Audubon Society and a member of the Friends of Fort Washington State Park. She served as editor of Philadelphia Larus from 1999 to 2004 when it went digital. She currently assists Naomi Murphy with editing.
She and Bob have six adult children and six grandchildren, scattered around the United States.
