Positions and Achievements
I am a retired physician and have been birding for 10-15 years. I got started by attending trips through Morris Arboretum, which I continue to do, and then have been separately participating in trips with Ruth Pfeffer through Birding with Ruth. I have birded mainly in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Great Smoky Mountains National Park and in the Everglades. I volunteer at the Academy of Natural Sciences as a galleries educator and am in conversation with the ornithologist there about working in Ornithology as well.
My husband and I live in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia and have two grandchildren whom we are trying to interest in the natural world. We have a tiny backyard with little in ground planting area but we do maintain a hummingbird feeder, a bird bath, brush pile and feed birds in severe weather. I garden mainly in pots with native plants to provide insects for the birds.
I am especially interested in what I and the local birding community could do in terms of tall buildings and lighting in the downtown area of Philiadelphia with relation to migration season and bird strikes in general
