Positions and Achievements
My first word was "bird". Really. I began identifying birds post college and started drawing a photographing birds in earnest around 1999. In 2013, I decided to make a career of it. Since then I've had my illustrations published in "Birding" magazine and was awarded the 2015 Don and Virginia Eckelberry Fellowship from ANSP. I converted my husband into a birder and we just spent our honeymoon in Costa Rica. In 2016 I will begin illustrating a children's book by Rob Bierregaard, currently titled "Belle's Journey" The story follows the first migration of an Osprey Rob tagged in Martha's Vineyard, named Belle. The book is to be released in early 2018, via Charlesbridge.
I am also working on publishing a picture book about the passenger pigeon, which seems to have made itself my "spirit" or "token" bird. The Carolina Parakeet will be next. Stay tuned.
