Chimney Swift Roost Show at Mifflin School – Joint Trip with Wyncote Audubon (NEW LOCATION)
In autumn migration, huge numbers of Chimney Swifts roost in chimneys of certain schools in the Philadelphia area. The birds gather near the school just before dark and in a spectacle of nature, dive into the chimney in a synchronized flight. We’ll watch the chimney swifts as they swirl around in a frenzy before finally entering the chimney at the school to roost overnight.
It is a sight to behold that only lasts a few minutes! Arrive at the school around 6:45 PM when the birds begin to gather. Bring a folding chair if you want to relax while we wait for the show.
Meet alongside the Thomas Mifflin School on Conrad Street. Park on Conrad, Midvale or Warden Streets at 6:45 pm.
This is a joint field trip of the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club and the Wyncote Audubon Society.Trip Leader: Judy Stepenaskie
