DVOC Field Trip to Cape May NJ – April 23, 2021

Trip Leaders: George Armistead, Tom Reed, Liam Hart

The DVOC field trip on April 23 to Cape May was a great success. 11 of us enjoyed a nice morning flight at the Springwatch, with DVOC secretary Barb Bassett and CMBO‘s Tom Reed hosting us. We had good views of gannets, American Oystercatcher, both loons, and a Parasitic Jaeger fly-by, before moving on to hit a few other spots. A brief stop on Stevens Street yielded beautiful sightings of a pair of evening grosbeaks, and then a quick duck-in to Higbee Beach netted us nice views of prairie warbler and we got to hear the continuing/returning Swainson‘s warbler there as well. We then headed on to the Ocean city info & welcome center to enjoy the raucous boat-tailed grackles & all the nesting herons there, including many finely plumed yellow crowned and black crowned night heron. Can’t wait to get back!

Note several DVOC members are birding on Global Big Day in support of CMBO & the Springwatch. You can support them here:
