This was a hybrid meeting, broadcast on Zoom. We had a speaker and a live audience in the BEES classroom and the meeting was broadcast on Zoom.

Announcements

Barb Bassett announced that the Great Backyard Bird count will be Feb. 14 – 17

Manny Dominguez announced for Rob Karchnyak that a Super Bowl video featuring Philadelphia area birders will be airing Friday Feb. 7 at 8am on the CBS Morning News national program.

Marty Dellwo announced that any future donations made to the DVOC Intern’s fund, in memory of Hart Rufe should be made out to “DVOC” (only) and not “DVOC Intern’s fund”

Gregg Gorton mentioned that Birding Club of Delaware County is collecting donations in memory of Tom Reeves who recently passed.

Nilesh Shah announced that Liberty Bird Alliance would be holding some events for the Great Backyard Bird count.

Local Notes

Patrick McGill noted that the Snowy Owl was relocated in Northern Liberties, he also had three White-crowned Sparrows at the Army Corps last weekend and the new Eagle pair there was nesting. Patrick also had a Red-breasted Nuthatch on his block in Germantown this week.

Gregg Gorton had a Scarlet Macaw at a Rest Stop on I-10 in the Mohave Desert in southeastern California, while driving back from Palm Springs.  

Marty Dellwo noted that he saw a lot of gulls at Glen Foerd, and a Bald Eagle eating a Great Black-backed Gull at the mud flats at Pennypack on the Delaware. Marty also had a White-breasted Nuthatch, immature and adult Cooper’s Hawks, and Tufted Titmouse at Rittenhouse Square.

Nilesh Shah had Pileated Woodpecker and Hermit Thrush in Pine Run Park in Maple Glen, Montgomery County.

Linda Rowan noted that the Winter Raptor Survey for Lower Bucks County was done on Jan. 26. They had 9 adult and 9 immature Bald Eagles between Bristol and Yardley PA

Barb Bassett had 6 White Ibis at Nummy Island Feb 4th, 12 Horned Larks at Cape May County Airport

Manny mentioned that Maria Pacheco reported that the Bald Eagles at Heinz were using a brand new nest and were already incubating eggs.

Evening Program

The original speaker for tonight’s program canceled then the replacement speakers also canceled due to illness.

Navin planned to give a last-minute talk “Kerala, Birding a Different Part of India”

Due to the cancelations and the lack of participants who joined the meeting, those that did attend held a vote to determine if Navin should do his talk or to save it for another date.

The vote was in favor of saving it and going to get a drink at the Cherry Street Tavern.
