We are deeply saddened by the passing, on August 24, of Patrick McGovern, husband of long-time DVOC member Doris McGovern, after a battle with cancer.
Pat is well-known internationally as a historian of fermented beverages: he would do sophisticated chemical analysis of scrapings from ancient pot shards to determine the makeup of ancient beers and wines. He is known popularly as “the Indiana Jones of Beer.” Pat was also a skilled birder, and accompanied Doris on many of her birding adventures.
We offer our deepest condolences to Doris, a DVOC stalwart: she joined DVOC just one year after women were first admitted, is a life member, Fellow, DEVOC Award recipient, two-time winner of the Julian Potter Award, and recipient of many other honors and distinctions.
