Billings Big Year: Art McMorris

Deadline for 2016 submission was 1/30. Committee will review checklists shortly and announce the winner.

Marty reads a thank you note from Hawk Mountain for 2016 gift. Bert Filmyr received 2 Hawk Mountain tote bags and T-shirt. Offered to membership for small donation. Phil Witmer purchases T-shirt and 1 tote bag. Donation to go to Conservation Committee

A new project was purchased and tested but did not meet our standards. Will be returned and another will be tested at the next meeting.

Today is George Armistead’s Birthday – membership sings Happy Birthday!
Last Friday was Bert Filemyr’s Birthday – membership sings again.
George Armistead announces that the club has received a donation of $10,000 from Jennifer Jacobs in memory of her father Joseph Jacobs who was DVOC club president in 1971/72. The donation will fund Cassinia through 2024. Today would have been Joseph’s 100th birthday. The club appreciates Jennifer’s generous donation and offered her a life membership. The club will also dedicate a Kestral Box in Joseph’s name.
Joseph Jacob’s obituary was posted in Cassinia – George reads an excerpt to membership.

Matthew Halley announces that his research on Nightingale Thrush has determined 2 separate species.
Phil Witmer asks members to join him in monitoring Kestral nesting. Contact Phil if you are interested.

Local Notes/Sightings

George Armistead announced that Black-backed Oriole was reported at a feeder in Berks County PA. The homeowner posted on FaceBook. The bird is on private property. More details should be found online.
Cindy Ahern reports a new yard bird in Montgomery County – a Peregrine Falcon.
Mike O’Brien updates the club on the Black Vultures that have been roosting at the senior home since December 2016.
Gregg Gorton reports Rufous/Allens type hummingbird on private property in Gladwyn PA.
Matthew Halley reports that 6 bluebird houses will be installed in Sedgely Woods – approved by Fairmount Park Commission.
